Adelaide to the 2015 Great Barrier Reef Masters Games!!

At last another blog!!  I was incredibly lucky to receive an offer to work on an event up in Cairns for 16 weeks...... what could I say? Great Barrier Reef Masters Games here I come and goodbye winter in Adelaide!!

So we packed up our Blue Sky once again and commenced our journey to FNQ via Broken Hill, Kinchela, Morven and then to Carnarvon National Park for an extended stay of 3 days.  We had heard that it was a beautiful place to go.

We set up in a lovely unpowered camp area and decided to go to the walks orientation so we could get the low down on the hikes available.  Next morning we headed off to "Big Bend" and all of the off shoot walks, which was a very epic day!!  It was about a 25km round trip which took us 8 hours and included about 30 creek crossings!!

The next morning again we made an early start to tackle the 970 steps up to the Boolimba Bluff - wow what a view, it was totally worth the climb!  We followed this up with the Rock Pool and Balloon Cave walks.

That night we opted for the roast dinner on the deck which was super yummy!!!  By the time we left Carnarvon NP we were well and truly walked out!!

We continued onto Cairns and after another couple of nights at free camps we finally arrived at a very wet Cairns!!  Once we set up we headed straight to Rusty's Markets to stock up on our awesome tropical fruit and veg.  We also called in to see the Esplanade crew to say hi before I commenced work on Monday.  It was so nice to see my gorgeous girl Rochelle once again..... but there have been some changes since last time I was there!!

Farewell Rochelle and Heather

The following Monday I commenced working on the Masters Games and met Jen, my amazing work colleague for the next few months!!  Wow what a ride, it was such a fabulous event to work on and I met and worked with so many lovely people including our fantastic sports convenors, volunteers and Sue, Margie, Simon and Nathan to name just a few. Geoff was incredibly generous and donated many many hours of his time volunteering for us, thank you so much baby for your never ending support for me.  We all worked our bums off and overcame challenges and delivered a fantastic fun games!!

We made sure we visited all of our fav places, ie Port Douglas, Mossman Gorge, Cairns Esplanade, AFL at Cazalys, Cairns Show, Moscow Circus, Rusty's Markets, Festival Cairns, Cairns Amateurs and catch ups with family and friends!

While I was working on the Games Geoff was lucky enough to score 8 weeks of work with the Torres Strait Council he also connected with his old work buddies via a weekly coffee catchup!  Geoff also ticked the "I climbed the Pyrimid" box!!

During our time up in Cairns my beautiful daughter Cassie and her family came to visit, we certainly made the most out of our time together, it was so good to see them.  We also caught up with the Daytrippers again and Janet and Alec and Jill and Grant, yay!
